local community to give their time to the practice as ‘practice health champions’. champions are people (usually patients at the practice) who voluntarily give their time to work alongside the staff team in a variety of ways. this might include: helping meet the non-clinical needs of patients, for example isolation, loneliness or learning to cope and live well with a long term condition. examples might be setting up a group for people who are newly diagnosed with a long term condition such as diabetes, or a coffee morning for people who might not get out much. helping the practice with activities such as flu clinics, patient surveys or other important priorities helping patients navigate the practice and find out about what else they can access in the local community and other services they can use. people might give a few hours a week, or more, or less. champions will take part in a 2-day workshop at the start of the work and will then meet regularly with each other and should take this into consideration when ordering prescriptions as they will be unable to pick up prescriptions from the surgery on a wednesday. we would advise patients to make use of the electronic prescription service which allows the prescriptions to be sent straight to the pharmacy of their choice . please let reception staff know which pharmacy you would like to use. an on-line prescription request service is available via our website, please ask for details on how to register to use this service. pharmacies can also order medications on a patient’s behalf. the decision to close our winton branch on a wednesday has not been taken lightly. in view of increasing patient demand and a shortage of gps we have made the decision for operational reasons, to allow us to maintain the
